Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then, she became a Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
